Northampton is a large market town located in Northamptonshire in the East Midlands. It is about 67 miles (108 km) north-west of London
and around 50 miles (80 km) south-east of Birmingham
. Northampton’s economy revolves mainly around the private sector with employers focusing on finance and distribution. Companies such as Barclaycard and Nationwide Building Society have a noticeable presence in the city. Originally, Northampton was related to the leather industries and shoe making.
With access to the M1 motorway there are easy links to London and North Yorkshire. The A45, A3 and A14 are also in close proximity. Northampton railway station provides services by London Midland to Birmingham and the Capital. For those travelling by air, the nearest airports are East Midlands Airport and Luton Airport, connected to Northampton by the M1. Both of these airports provide international services and can also be accessed via train links.
The University of Northampton is also located in the city.
