All you need to know about Huddersfield

Huddersfield is a large market town in West Yorkshire, around 10 miles south of Bradford, the nearest city. Situated close to both the South Pennines and the Peak District, the town is surrounded by striking countryside and is a popular destination for walkers and cyclists. The town’s main train station has express services to Liverpool and Manchester, as well as to numerous other northern cities such as Newcastle, York and Leeds.

The town has a number of museums and art galleries. Colne Valley Museum focuses on local working life in the mid 1880s, while Tolson Memorial Museum spans a wider time frame, with collections around the area's earliest settlers alongside modern artifacts. Meanwhile, Huddersfield Art Gallery showcases British and international art from the last 100 years.

The town first entered recorded history in Roman times, but Huddersfield, as it exists today, took shape during the Industrial Revolution. Huddersfield has been involved in the woollen industry for centuries and became a centre for the textile industry during the 18th and 19th centuries.
