All you need to know about Shenyang

Shenyang is situated in the northeast of China and is the largest city in the Liaoning Province. The name Shenyang means 'the city to the north of Shen River'. The city's origins date back to the 17th century and it was once the capital city of the Qing dynasty.

Shenyang is an important industrial city within China; due to its positioning, it has strong trade ties with JapanSouth Korea and Russia. Shenyang is perhaps best known for its manufacture of heavy machinery and its development of aerospace technology. More recently, the banking sector has been the focus of development in the city.

The inner city is made up of five districts: Shenhe District, Heping District, Dadong District, Huanggu District and the Tiexi District. 4 million people live within these areas alone.

Mukden Palace is one of the city’s main attractions and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The main airport is called Shenyang Taoxian International Airport and is located in the Dadong District. Eight railways serve the city and a high-speed train opened in 2007 meaning that you can reach Beijing by train in less than 4 hours. The majority of the serviced apartments Shenyang has to offer are near transport links of some kind.
