Camden is an eclectic area in north London, attracting people from all walks of life. Here, affluent professionals, punks, students and artsy types all rub shoulders in what is an exciting and vibrant place to live and work. The Borough of Camden has Islington as a border to the east, Kilburn to the west, Holborn in the south and the desirable area of Hampstead to the north.

The area is steeped in literary history, with both Charles Dickens and his ‘A Christmas Carol’ character Bob Crachit having lived in Camden. Originally part of the Kentish Town Manor, the borough takes its name from the Earl of Camden. The opening of the Regent’s Canal in 1820 saw Camden grow as workers flocked to live in the area.

Today, the area is renowned for its markets, nightlife and diversity. With the picturesque areas of Primrose Hill, Hampstead and Regent’s Park next to the gritty urban Camden Town, there’s something for everyone in Camden.

Businesses in the area

Predominately a residential and leisure area the majority of businesses are in the retail, restaurant and arts industries. The infamous markets of Camden, Camden Lock and Camden Stables attract both tourists and locals and bring a lot of business to the area.

Companies situated in Camden include MTV UK and Europe and the Addison Lee headquarters.

Transport

Camden Town, Chalk Farm, Mornington Crescent and Kentish Town underground stations are all on the Northern line and are only a few stops from King’s Cross St Pancras, making it easy to get into central London.

The area is well served by bus routes and the footpaths along the canal are an easy way to get around the area – but maybe steer clear at night!

Places to take clients

For a lavish and opulent dining experience, Gilgamesh is a Pan-Asian restaurant with a decadent, Babylonian inspired décor. Choose from three areas, the Tea House, the Lounge or the Restaurant with an impressive retractable roof.

For more of a low key business meeting, there’s a surplus of gastro-pubs in the Borough of Camden. We particularly like the Engineer in Primrose Hill for a relaxed traditional pub with fresh, seasonal food.

For a quick lunch on the go the Arancini Brothers in Kentish Town is perfect, their risotto balls are some of the best in London. There’s a patio area at the back where you can sit and enjoy your Italian treats while basking in the sunshine.

Leisure

You could happily spend the entire weekend in Camden without having to leave, there’s such a huge variety of things to do. For live music or theatre there are a multitude of venues including the Roundhouse on Chalk Farm Road and the Forge near Mornington Crescent. For BBQ, Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll head to the Blues Kitchen.

Retail therapy comes in the form of the markets of Camden where you can find antiques, vintage clothes, art and other bric-a-brac.

For some outdoor fun London Zoo is based in the beautiful Regent’s Park and offers a great day out for the family. Discover the Gorilla Kingdom, Penguin Beach and Rainforest life at this top tourist attraction. Alternatively, Hampstead Heath to the north of Camden is a little haven of countryside in the city. Climb Parliament Hill for breath taking views across London.
