About Zurich

Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and its main commercial and cultural centre. Many financial institutions have their headquarters here as Zurich is the world's primary centre for offshore banking, mainly due to Swiss bank secrecy. The financial sector accounts for about one quarter of the city's economic activities

The historic centre of the city is the 'Lindenhof', a small hill on the left bank of the River Limmat, about 700 meters north of where the river flows out of Lake Zurich. Here you will find Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world's most expensive and exclusive shopping avenues. Half way along is Paradeplatz, where the two biggest Swiss banks, the UBS and the Credit Suisse Group have their headquarters. Paradeplatz is also known for its chocolate shop and cafe, Confiserie Sprungli.

Niederdorf and the Langstrasse in the old city district are famous districts for nightlife, with bars, restaurants, lounges, hotels and a lot of fashion shops for the young and stylish. The shore of Lake Zurich hosts the August Street Parade which attracts up to a million techno music fans and ravers from across Europe each year.

The main station in the city centre is Zurich HB with trains to all parts of Switzerland and central Europe, including TGV services.

Zurich's international airport is at Kloten, 10km northeast of the city. Zurich airport railway station (Zurich Flughafen) is located underneath the terminal. There are direct trains to many parts of Switzerland, including intercity services to Winterthur, Bern, Basel and Lucerne.
