There is evidence of settlement in Aberystwyth as early as the Mesolithic age, with activity reported in the area, Tan-y-Bwlch. The remains of a Celtic fortress have similarly been reported on a hill overlooking the town, along with a medieval ringfort close to the River Ystymth. In the Early Modern era, various new roadways, bridges and trees were built in Aberystwyth, giving the town its distinct landscape that we see today. Alongside that, craftsman and rural industries became a common sight in the town. A local trade directory from 1830, showed evidence of boot makers, bakers, carpenters, dressmakers, hat makers, tinsmiths and stonemasons in the town, amongst other craftsmen. As the city’s infrastructure has grown, so too has business travel to the town.

The Victorian period is marked by improvements to Aberystwyth’s train links. In 1864, The Cambrian Railways line was extended to Aberystwyth and paved the way for a tourist boom in the town, and the subsequent emergence of an increased number of corporations and businesses to the area. The rise in popularity of serviced apartments across Wales, in turn, led to the creation of more accommodation options in Aberystwyth for students and business travellers alike. Today, Aberystwyth is a lively university town brimming with bars, restaurants, cafes, amusements and serviced apartments close to numerous attractions.
