About Nairn

Nairn is a city situated to the North of Scotland. It is 16 miles east of Inverness. Being located on the beach fronts of the North Sea has meant that it has become well known as a seaside resort. Its appeal has only been heightened by the two world class golf courses that the city boasts.

It was once claimed by King James VI of Scotland that in his kingdom he had a town whose only street was so long that the people living at one end could not understand the language of those at the other. This was in regard to Nairn, where at one end of the main road people spoke Scottish Gaelic and at the other lay a Scots-speaking community.

During 2010 particular attention was bestowed upon Nairn when it was announced that one of its residents, Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton, would host a film festival in the city. Nairn also holds an annual Highland Games festival which is one of the highlights of the social calendar.
