About Wimbledon
Wimbledon is a suburb of London, part of the London Borough of Merton and located seven miles (11.3 km) south west of Charing Cross.
For most of the past one hundred years, Wimbledon has been synonymous with the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, a major international sporting event that is held every June/July over a two week period.
Wimbledon Park is a both a park in Wimbledon and the suburb around it, to which it lends its name. It is the second largest park in the London Borough of Merton and Wimbledon Park tube station can be found on it's eastern edge.
To the immediate west of the park is the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Wimbledon Park should not be confused with the much larger and better known Wimbledon Common that also lies to the west which has four golf courses and horse trails.
Wimbledon's attraction remains its convenient access to central London and the open space and recreational facilities it boasts. There are both underground and mainline railway connections into west London and central London respectively along with numerous bus services.
In recent years, the sustained demand for property, especially for the larger properties of Wimbledon Village and Wimbledon Park, has seen house prices rise to amongst the highest in the outer London area. Within central Wimbledon are plenty of shops, retailers, pubs and amenities, and nearby Wimbledon Village offers a collection of exclusive bistros and restaurants.
