About Waterloo
Waterloo is located on the southern side of the River Thames, south west of the City of London. Rightfully referred to as Lambeth, Waterloo is so-called for the area’s famous bridge that stands in memory of the famous 1815 Battle of Waterloo. Located at a strategic bend in the river, views from this bridge, both westwards and eastwards, are considered to be the finest at any ground level point along the Thames.
London Waterloo railway terminus is a focal point for the area, incorporating both National Rail services and the London Underground. Between 1994 and 2007, Eurostar services operated from Waterloo but were transferred to London St Pancras with the advent of a new high-speed service. The majority of serviced apartments in Waterloo are near transport links of some kind.
The south end of Waterloo Bridge is known as the South Bank. This includes numerous cultural institutions and buildings including the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal National Theatre, Queen Elizabeth Hall and the National Film Theatre, which is directly beneath the bridge.
