About Mansion House
Mansion House is the official residence of the Lord Mayor of the City of London. It is located in near Mansion House tube station. It is used for some of the City of London’s official functions, including an annual dinner, hosted by the Lord Mayor, at which the Chancellor of the Exchequer gives a speech about the state of the British economy.
Mansion House was built between 1739 and 1752, in Palladian style by the London architect, George Dance the Elder. The site was formerly occupied by St Mary Woolchurch Haw, a church which was destroyed in the Great Fire of London. The construction of Mansion House was prompted by a wish to put an end to the inconvenient practice of lodging the Lord Mayor in one of the City Halls. Dance won the design competition over solicited designs from Jammes Gibbs and Giacomo Leoni.
Mansion House tube station is a sub-surface station served by trains on the Circle and District lines. It is between Blackfriars and Cannon Street stations. The station is located at the junction of the Queen Victoria Street and Cannon Street and is in travelcard zone 1. The majority of the serviced apartments Mansion House has to offer are near transport links of some kind.
