About Dublin

Founded as a Viking settlement at the mouth of the River Liffey, Dublin is the capital and largest city in Ireland, near the midpoint of Ireland's east coast. Dublin is a major European cultural centre and the origin of many prominent literary figures. Dublin has a population of over a million and the city is one of the most youthful in the world - an estimated 50% of inhabitants are younger than 25.

Temple Bar is a popular nightlife area with street performers, drummers and many intimate small music venues. The area around Stephen's Green - especially Harcourt Street, Camden Street, Wexford Street and Leeson Street - has also become a centre for some of the most popular nightclubs and typical Irish pubs in Dublin.

Dublin is at the centre of Ireland's transport system. The main railway stations are Heuston Station, which connects Dublin with the south and west, and Connolly Station which serves Belfast and northern areas. These two stations are connected by a light railway network called the Luas. Unfortunately, the two lines that make up the Luas 'system' are not connected to each other.

The International Airport is about 10km north of the city. With no rail link, the main transport options to the city are taxi or buses.
