About Denver

Denver in the state of Colorado is located in the South Platte River Valley on the High Plains just east of the southern Rocky Mountains. The Denver downtown district is approximately 15 miles (24km) east of the Rockie's foothills and is nicknamed "The Mile-High City" because its official elevation is exactly one mile (5,280 feet or 1,609m) above sea level.

Denver has a semi-arid climate with four distinct seasons, but the day-to-day weather is heavily influenced by the proximity of the Rocky Mountains to the west. Denver's winters can vary from mild to cold, with snow falls from October to April. Large amounts of snow fall on the mountain ski resorts just west of the city.
