Coventry

Coventry, in the West Midlands of England has a population of 300,000 and is situated 95 miles (153km) north-west of London and 19 miles (30km) east of Birmingham.

It is a city famed for having not just one, but three cathedrals - the ruins of St Mary's, destroyed by Henry VIII; medieval St Michael's, blitzed by the Luftwaffe in November 1940; and its replacement, consecrated in 1962.

Coventry is also famous for the legendary Lady Godiva who agreed to ride naked through the town in exchange for her husband agreeing to reduce taxes. There is a yearly procession through the town as well as a free music festival, featuring local musicians and bands, named in her honour.

Engineering and manufacturing excellence remains one of the city's greatest assets. Peugeot and Jaguar Cars have international headquarters in Coventry and the famous London Taxis are built in Coventry. Marconi, one of the world's leading global communications and information technology companies, has its divisional headquarters in Coventry where it employs 2200 people in Research & Development and Telecommunications and Electronics.

The nearest major airports are Birmingham International Airport, 11 miles (17km) to the west of the city and Coventry Airport, located 5 miles (8km) south of the city centre, which operates commercial scheduled flights to more than 20 European destinations.
