Known as "the city of a hundred spires", Prague (Czech: Praha) is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic and home to 1.2m people. Situated on the Vltava river Bohemia, the historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites and Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world.
Ruzyne International Airport is located 10km from the city centre. Public transport to and from Prague city center involves taking the 119 bus number to Dejvicka metro station and transferring on to the green metro line (Line A) there, or express bus 100 to Zlicin metro station (yellow Line B) farther from the city centre. A typical trip takes about 40 minutes. The new bus line AE runs between RW Station Holesovice and the North Terminals from 05.00 to 22.00H every 30 minutes for a 45 CZK fare.
Public transport consists of an integrated transport system of three metro lines (with 54 stations), trams, (including the "nostalgic tram" no.91), buses, a funicular to Petrin Hill and a chairlift at Prague Zoo. All the services have a common ticketing system.
The 60m high Petrin Tower which resembles the Eiffel Tower was built in 1891. It takes half an hour to walk up the hill and on clear days the tower offers a good view of the Prague skyline. It is open from 10am to 7-10pm every day from April to October and at weekends from November to March.
Wenceslas Square (Czech: Vaclavske namesti) in the New Town is one of the main city squares and the centre of the business and cultural communities.
