About the Area for SilverDoor Serviced Apartments in Shanghai

Shanghai

Shanghai (Chinese: 上海) on the Yangtze River delta is the largest city in China with 17 million people. It is the commercial hub of modern China and its most important cultural, financial, industrial and communications center. Shanghai is also the world's largest cargo port.

Shanghai is bisected by the Huangpu River. Puxi contains the city proper on the west bank, while an entirely new financial district has been erected on the east bank in Pudong. Since economic liberalisation in 1992, Shanghai has undergone a building boom with many new residential and commerical skyscrapers.

Shanghai has a monsoon-influenced humid subtropical climate but experiences all four seasons. Winter freezes are not uncommon, yet July and August highs average 32°C with accompanying oppressive humidity.

Shanghai has an extensive public transportation system, largely based on buses. The Shanghai Metro has five lines and is expanding rapidly. Bus and metro fares run from ¥1 to ¥4 depending on distance (or between 12 to 50 US cents). Taxis in Shanghai are plentiful and charge around ¥11 (about $1 US) for 3 km.

The world’s first commercial Maglev railway connects Shanghai's Longyang Road subway station to Pudong International Airport. The 30km trip takes 7 minutes 21 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 431kmh (268mph).
