	Phil Hudson - PR & Marketing Support Phil is studying Marketing at Bournemouth University and joined the SilverDoor Marketing Department on a placement in July 2011. Read on to find out why Phil chose SilverDoor.

Why did I choose SilverDoor? The description of my role initially attracted me to SilverDoor. I was keen to work on a marketing placement where I would have the opportunity to get deeply involved, rather than spend the majority of my time doing administration. Furthermore, the prospect of working for a business-to-business service provider offered an additional challenge, as it is often considered the more difficult side of marketing. What I do at SilverDoor Working within the SilverDoor Marketing Team is an engaging and constantly evolving experience. My main roles include: managing web content, SEO and PPC campaigns; sourcing and uploading new properties; writing news articles; managing the SilverDoor Twitter, Flickr and LinkedIn accounts and assisting with general marketing projects from advertising to merchandise procurement. What I enjoy the most about my placement I enjoy having the opportunity to get stuck into some real work, as opposed to university coursework. There is a sense of satisfaction gained from knowing that your work is actually useful: whether it’s featured on the website, or simply a good tweet, it all makes a difference. The team atmosphere inside and outside of work really makes you feel at home and I feel that this in turn really benefits SilverDoor, as everyone works well together. Playing football with the SD Lions is a great laugh and provides a good bit of exercise. I am looking forward to the coming season! Key skills and attributes required to do my job well It is often assumed that marketers are purely creative. While creativity is an essential component of my job, being methodical is probably more important. Even something often considered simple, such as Twitter, requires a structured approach to ensure the desired brand image is communicated – it’s the small details that construct the big idea. Written English is also extremely important. Anything that our department produces, whether it’s a press release or an internal email, conveys an image of the sender. Therefore it’s imperative that spelling and grammar are correct. The ‘measure twice and cut once’ philosophy seems appropriate here.


	Leanne Uden - Accounts and Finance Support Leanne is studying Accounting and Finance at Bournemouth University and joined the SilverDoor Accounts Department on a placement in July 2011. Read on to find out why Leanne chose SilverDoor.

Why did I choose SilverDoor? The moment I walked into the SilverDoor office for my interview I was greeted by an array of friendly faces. I felt welcome and comfortable in my environment, which made the interview a lot easier. As the interview progressed I learned how much SilverDoor prides itself on the hard work that has been put in to make the company the success it is today. I felt that I would be a part of a strong team that would help to develop my skills. What I do at SilverDoor Within the SilverDoor Finance Department my main roles include bank reconciliations, Sage software updates, property invoice queries, scheduling invoices for payment, processing service provider invoices and financial projects. Other important elements of my role include assisting the Purchase Ledger with any extra work that is required, helping to catch up with booking sheets and client invoicing. There is definitely variety in this role. What I enjoy the most about my placement Having had little work experience in accounting, I thought that my placement year would be difficult. However, the environment at SilverDoor is perfect for learning, so I feel that I have learned a great deal and I have enjoyed every part of the experience. Key skills and attributes required to do my job well A skill needed to succeed in my job is the ability to collect, evaluate and interpret data, either in statistical or narrative form. This role has also really helped me develop my organisational skills and my ability to prioritise tasks. Attention to detail is important and there is a strong emphasis on good business etiquette, especially when communicating with other companies.
