It’s hard to imagine a restaurant scene without the Michelin guide rating system. What started as a simple initiative to boost tyre sales over a century ago has grown into a world famous set of guidebooks that we all know and recognise.
Where previously there were limited platforms in place for reviewing where to eat and drink, rigorous inspections from culinary experts are now the status quo, giving restaurants the impetus to climb in rank and attract an international following of foodies.
Without its introduction over a century ago, fine dining establishments might never have received the recognition they deserve on the scale we’re seeing now.
In the UK alone, it’s reported there are more than 150 Michelin-starred restaurants, ranging from cosy pubs to hotel dining rooms. But, what if we were to narrow that list down to, say, the top 20?
