Oxford Street Christmas Lights Go Live

Oxford Street Christmas Lights Go Live
5th November 2014

For the 55th year running, the annual Oxford Street Christmas lights display will welcome Londoners into the festive season. The theme of falling snowflakes returns again this year with over 1,778 glowing white orbs floating above the stretch of this famous shopping street. On the 6th November a host of celebrity presenters and performers will take to the stage at Oxford Street’s John Lewis to over-see the switching on of the lights (an evening where even the meanest of Scrooges can’t avoid the contagious Christmas spirit).  In previous years, Richard Branson, the Spice Girls and Robbie Williams have all had the privilege of switching on the lights and everyone will be waiting to see who the mystery guest(s) will be this year.

Oxford Circus Underground Station provides public transport connections from all over the city, encouraging tourists and locals to visit both the display and shops leading up to Christmas. It’s just a 4 minute walk from John Lewis, so you can find a place in the crowd to see this year’s chosen presenter switch on the lights.  At SilverDoor, our vast portfolio of London serviced apartments means we can provide you with accommodation situated just a few minutes’ walk away from the spectacular display. Maddox Street Apartments are a 3 minute walk from Oxford Street itself, so you can enjoy the lights every day, keeping you in the festive spirit throughout both November and December!

If you’re away on business during the festive period, a serviced apartment means you don’t have to spend Christmas in a cramped hotel room. With fully equipped kitchens, multiple bedrooms, spacious living areas and TV packages you can cook Christmas dinner for the family, have plenty of hiding places for the presents you picked up shopping on Oxford Street and curl up on the sofa watching Christmas specials.

Oxford Street isn’t the only Christmas light display attracting thousands of visitors each year. Regent Street has its own Christmas show (16th November) including celebrity appearances and a firework display marking the moment their ‘12 days of Christmas’ themed lights are turned on. Covent Garden also provides the City with its own magical display consisting of a 60ft Christmas tree, thousands of fairy lights, baubles and a new LEGO creation that is yet to be unveiled.
